Local boys win 1-0

Ama50-50 FC beat Highlands Park City 1-0 in an entertaining game played at Isithama ground on Sunday last week.

Both teams started the game well, but the lads from Ilidinga section had more scoring opportunities than their opponents in the first 15 minutes of the game.

They forced the hosts to play with their backs against the wall, but could not penetrate the defence manned by Divhani Magau. Just after 20 minutes into the game, the local lads started controlling the midfield. Led by the township’s dribbling wizard, Thabang Kakase, they started dishing out swift, deft passes to their strikers. The score sheet was still 0-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Ama50-50 went for the kill from the centre line, but were repelled by the defence. The locals opened the scoring through Kakase, who sent in a free kick 25 meters from the goal posts. They held their lead until the end of the game.

After the game, Ama50-50’s defensive kingpin Magau said they played as a team.

“We played well as a team, but I think we were lucky to win today as we missed many scoring chances,” he said.
