Cancer fun run in Tembisa

The Tembisa Athletics Club will host the Street Mile 5km prostate cancer fun run and walk in Tembisa on November 30.

The event will start and finish at the Moses Molelekwa Art Centre next to the Makhulong Stadium. Runners can register on-line at www.enteronline.co.za or at the venue on Friday, November 29. Registration will start at 9am till 7pm.

Those who did not make it on the day of registration can still register on Saturday morning at 6am, before the start of the race.

According to Mr Donald Mathipa, one of the organisers, the main aim of the event is the revival ofsport within communities and to highlight the effects of prostate cancer.

“We urge athletes and beginners to join the fun run to promotesport in the community. After the fun run, members from the Department of Health will addres people about prostate cancer. There will be some tests done, like high blood pressure, HIV/Aids, sugar diabetes and many others,” he said.

Mr Mathipa said they want to encourage people to be health-conscious and to consider excising.

The entrance fee is R30 for the 5km run, while the street walk for U/15s will cost R15.

The event is limited to 1 000 entries. The first five winners in the U/15 section and the 5km run will all win hampers.

Medals will be given to all participants.
