“This is quite sad. A day later, the country woke up to news of a similar nature in Diepsloot. Before we could even recover from that, we now have to deal with a similar traumatic incident in our own backyard,” said Gungubele.

“While investigators are still trying to uncover the truth about the Ekurhuleni incident, such barbaric acts against the most vulnerable and defenseless in our societies cannot continue unchallenged. This clearly goes against the principles of the freedom we fought for,” he added.

He said the country needs to intensify its campaign against the abuse of women and children.

The bodies of the toddlers were found lying next to their mother, who was in a poor condition. She was hospitalised immediately.
