Beware of fake driving schools

Three suspects, aged between 28- and 31-years-old, were arrested for trying to issue fraudulent drivers licenses at Tswelapele, an extension near Ivory Park.

The trio were arrested by Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) officers on Monday last week.

The suspects claimed to be agents of Osizweni Driving School, which did not have an address.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, some victims met with the suspects in Germiston and were promised to be tested for their driver’s licence in Wadesville.

“One of the victims, who was suppose to be tested in Wadesville, was told that he had arrived late and would not be tested on the day. He was told to pay an outstanding amount of R2 600, after he paid an initial R900 for his driver’s license. The suspects then took his fingerprintsand he was given a fake temporary driver’s licence,” she explained.

W/O Sekgobela added that the victim was told to come back in six weeks to check for his driver’s licence card.

“After that period, he went to check for the card and was told his driver’s licence was invalid. That was when the victim, who is from Ivory Park Extension 9, started to trace the whereabouts of the suspects,” she said.

The trio were later arrested at Tswelapele Extension after being traced by the victim and Metro Police.

The men were found with business cards for their driving school. The suspects were arrested and detained at the Ivory Park SAPS.

They are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on charges of fraud.
