Tembisans deliberate on e-tolls

It looks like nothing is going to stop the government from implementing the e-toll system in Gauteng.

The president has already signed the bill into law, paving the way for Sanral to implement the system legally. But motorists and Outa are still adamant they will throw all the artillery at their disposal to stop Sanral from implementing the system. Tembisans also have their own views on the impact of Sanral’s e-tolls in Gauteng.

Justice Nemudzivhadi says only parliamentarians and the rich will be able to afford paying for the e-tolls. “The price of petrol keeps increasing, food is now very expensiveand people are going to park their cars and use taxis. Taxis will also increase their fare to be able to buy petrol. We are really facing a bleak future in this country,” he said.

Lufuno Matshintshisa says he is tired of being told about the e-toll system. “South Africans like to talk a lot about things that affect them negatively. I am not going to do that. Nearly twenty years into democracy, things have not changed for the majority of South Africans, only those who are connected are enjoying the fruits of democracy. I am going to use my vote to change this nonsense that is going on, and stop wasting my time by talking,” he said

The director of Rutanang Community Projects Lucky Kgafela says he is totally against the implementation of the e-toll system. “People are not even going to visit each other. Relatives will only communicate telephonically. If you have a relative in Pretoria, how much are you going to pay for the e-tolls? Our people are not working and are struggling with debts, but the government is pushing them to suffer more. Let us pray for the Lord to help us in this country,” he said.

Sello Ramaloko is of the view that those who are in government do not care about poor people. “Poor people are protesting every day about poor service delivery and the lack of employment opportunities. They receive fat salaries every month, while people are still crammed in shacks. They have introduced e-tolls against the will of the peopleand now they are enforcing it on us. They are enjoying life at the expense of the poor people who voted them into office. The e-toll is a very bad system,” he concluded.
