Countdown begins for matriculants

Only three weeks are left before this year's matriculants face their final exams.

William Tjebane, the deputy chairman of the Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign (QLTC) in Ekurhuleni North District, has urged parents and teachers to encourage their children and learners to study hard so that they may all pass.

Tjebane said this a crucial time for grade 12 learners, as they are prepare for their final examinations.

“Most matrics convince themselves that the exam is so far off that they do not need to worry about it. They think they will have plenty of time to study. Then suddenly they have only a few days left, and their stress levels go through the roof as they realise there just isn’t enough time left. Starting your studying early is going to ensure you not only have the information at your fingertips, but that you will remember it in the long-term as well,” he said. Tjebane added that the executive committee of the QLTC has been working closely with local pastors, the SAPS, unions, and councillors, among others, to ensure the safety and cleanliness of learners in schools.

“Our district, which is number one in the province, has planned camps for grade 12 learners to ensure the remaining days are utilised effectively. We would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the Tembisa community, to thank all the stakeholders in education for their efforts and their commitment to ensure education becomes a societal issue to ensure that learners pass,” he added. The QLTC is in partnership with the Department of Education and the parliament constituency office.
