The 53-year-old woman had returned home late from her grandson’s birthday party. She went to bedand this is when she claims the attack took place. She woke up with someone jumping on herand she tried to fight back. The victim claims she recognised her attacker as her nephew, who overpowered and raped her. He fled the scene after the rape. The victim called the police and the suspect was later arrested and detained at the Tembisa police cells.
“I appeal to all members of the community to report cases of family violence, child abuse and sexual assault. Even if you only suspect abuse is taking place, the police will help,” said the Tembisa SAPS station commander, Brigadier Johan Jacobs.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Tembisa magistrate’s court soon.
