VIDEO: At least 27 people confirmed dead in Limpopo’s N1 accident
The accident occurred between Kranskop and Middlefontein when the front right tire of a truck burst causing it to hit oncoming traffic.
The Limpopo Department of Health have confirmed that 27 people have been declared dead in a multi-vehicle accident on the N1 between Kranskop and Middlefontein in the Mookgopong area, Polokwane Review reports.
The accident occurred when the front right tire of a truck burst causing it to hit oncoming traffic and not an overturned taxi as initially reported.
As a result, the MEC for Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo, Makoma Makhurupetje has called on the national Department of Transport as well as SANRAL to assist on Limpopo’s Roads.
The N1 remains closed for now.

According to reports, a minibus overturned and there is a truck and several other vehicles involved, with some vehicles are on fire.
Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala says the N1 between Modimolle and Mookgophong is currently closed and emergency services are on scene.
