Police arrived on the scene after receiving a complaint of a robbery in progress

TWO suspects were arrested on Wednesday at about 4:30pm in Van Riebeek Park for attempted carjacking and armed robbery.

“It is alleged that the victim, together with his girlfriend, were parked in the open veld next to Soutpansberg Road. They were approached by two male suspects. One armed with a firearm went to the driver’s side and pointed it at the driver through the half open window. The driver grabbed the firearm and they started fighting for it,” explained Molokomme.

“The second suspect searched the car. ”

Police arrived on the scene after receiving a complaint of a robbery in progress in the veld.

“The two fled with the victim’s cellphone and car keys but didn’t get far as the officers made it very difficult for them to escape,” explained Molokomme.

He pointed out that during the arrest, the two were found in possession of some of the victim’s property, including car keys. The cellphone and firearm were, however, not recovered.

The K9 Unit was called but nothing was found and the search continued the next day to no avail.

The arrested suspects, aged 32 and 33, appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted hijacking and armed robbery.
