AN attempted murder case is being investigated following the shooting of a 28-year-old man in Spartan in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Netcare 911’s spokesman, Santi Steinmann, reported that paramedics had attended to a scene on Loper Avenue where a man had been injured in the lower back after being shot.
According to Kempton police’s spokesman, Capt Jethro Mtshali, the victim is a Benoni resident and had just arrived at his place of work at 5.55am when the incident took place.
“It is alleged that as the 28-year-old man alighted from his white BMW, he was accosted by about four men,” Mtshali explained.
They forced the victim onto the ground and a struggle ensued, which resulted in one of the robbers firing a shot, wounding the man in his lower back.
“The suspects drove off with the victim’s car. Nothing else was taken. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he is receiving treatment.”
The victim’s car was later recovered in Alexandra township.
A case of car hijacking has also been opened.
