Allen Park Retirement Village hosts annual fundraiser

The retirement village was established in 1975 and survives on sponsorships and fundraisers.

Allen Park Retirement Village in Allen Grove held its annual fundraising event on October 5, bringing together residents, their loved ones and the community for a fun-filled day.

Established in 1975, the retirement village relies on sponsorships and fundraisers for its upkeep.

The event featured a variety of delicious homemade treats, including pancakes, vetkoek, breakfast dishes, curry and rice, roosterkoek, potjiekos, jaffles, puddings, cakes and other baked goods.

Attendees could also enjoy a beer garden, ice cream and a tea garden.

Children had a great time with jumping castles, a kids’ corner, and activities to keep them entertained, while 124 outside stalls offered a range of items.

Sarie Scheepers, Lifestyle Management Consultant at the village, shared that cold drinks, sweets, and ice cream were provided to frail care residents, and a host of entertainment was organised.

Performers included the Kempton Park Pipe Band, Manie Jackson, Luan Nel, Matt Stern, and Logan Pieterse.

“We strive to spoil our residents regularly, as it is an honour to care for those who once cared for us,” said Scheepers.

“We’re grateful for the generosity and support of everyone who contributed to the event’s success.”

She also thanked all who donated their time, resources, and assistance, emphasizing that the event’s success resulted from collective efforts.
