Child Welfare SA Kempton Park hosts successful Wellness Fun Day

The aim was to ensure that children see the importance of having fun through playing games which boosts their critical thinking.

Child Welfare SA Kempton Park hosted a Wellness Fun Day at Kaalfontein informal settlement on September 7.
The event was held at the municipal park opposite Transnet on the R25 road.

Lisbeth Sekgota, administrator at the organisation, said the purpose of the Wellness Fun Day was to introduce the children to different ways of having fun.

“The aim was to ensure that children are taught the importance of having fun through playing games that boost their critical thinking and their cognitive development,” said Sekgota.

Some of the actions that took place at the Wellness Fun Day.

Sekgota said they catered for over 50 children and the event featured three stations consisting of cognitive building games, colouring books and building blocks.

“The children participated in the activities from the moment they arrived.

“They were helped throughout the day by a student social worker who ensured that the young ones do all activities according to instructions.”

Sekgota said the children were given toys, bread, toiletries, party packs and food parcels to take home.

The event was sponsored by McDonalds who supplied meals to the children.

The Mentec Foundation also provided sponsorship in the form of haircuts for the children and backpacks.
