88 suspects arrested, vehicles and firearms recovered in police operations

Successful Rapid Response operations led to 88 arrests and several vehicle and firearm recoveries.

Between August 30 and September 5, Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 88 suspects, recovering 62 motor vehicles and five firearms.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

These operations led to 51 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, shoplifting, armed robbery, fraud, malicious damage to property, theft, attempted murder, murder, counterfeit money, possession of stolen property, pointing of a firearm, rape, possession of housebreaking equipment, possession of car breaking equipment, damage to essential infrastructure, illegal immigrant and intimidation.

A total of 62 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with sixteen 16 arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Five unlicensed firearms were recovered accompanying one arrest.

In further policing, 20 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroine, dagga, cat (cocaine), Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigation continues in these cases.

The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
