Five arrested in Kempton Park for ‘creating fake documents’

The men are suspected of producing fake matric certificates, firearm competency licenses and police clearances among other documents.

Five men have been arrested in Kempton Park on suspicion of generating fake documentation including matric certificates, firearm competency licenses and police clearances.

Spokesperson for the City of Ekurhuleni, Zweli Dlamini said the arrests were made by the EMPD’s Community Liaison Unit Task Team and the Gauteng Special Law Enforcement Unit.

“The two Malawians, two Nigerians and a South African were generating fake documentation such as police clearance certificates, driver’s licenses, matric certificates, firearm competency certificates, pay slips, face value documentation and medical certificates.”

Dlamini added that authorities received a tip-off about the syndicate.

“On arrival at the business situated at the intersection of Voortrekker and Pretoria roads officers found equipment including a photocopy and fax machines as well as other equipment suspected to have been used in the production of the fake documentation.

“Several fake documents were also seized.”

Dlamini added that during the arrests one of the suspects attempted to bribe officers with R1 000 to set them free.

The suspects were detained at the Kempton Park Police Station and are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate Court soon on charges which include fraud and bribery.
