Letter: Reader expresses concern on the deteriorating state of Ekurhuleni

"We are in a new financial year with budgets that were approved so let us see it being spent effectively to the benefit of the residents."

EDITOR – I have a few concerns about the state of the maintenance of our city.

I would like the city manager and the department heads to show us their plans and the timelines that they have put in place to address these concerns.

The first concern is the condition of our roads.

There are so many potholes all across the city.

It is not that we need the hole to be patched it needs to be repaired I am sure there is a process for this.

Next concern is the road markings, I note that it must be years last since any paint was used on the roads.

Most road marks do not exist or have faded to the extent that you cannot identify them.

Next is the traffic lights, if I have to take a guess there is about 90% of the traffic lights in Kempton Park that is nonfunctional, either faulty, damaged or vandalised.

I have driven on Edenvale’s main road and most traffic lights are working why is there this problem in Kempton Park?

Next up, the street lights. Firstly, they are on during the day and this means the residents are paying for the waste of energy because the day/night switches that are supposed to be used to switch off and on the lights are either faulty, damaged or stolen.

Secondly, the faulty lights are not being repaired.

There are several major intersections in the city where the street lights do not work. This is a concern to all the residents as it affects the safety of the people of our city.

There are still many other areas of concern such as the poor maintenance at the parks or the cemeteries.
The other concern is the poor availability of refuse facilities.
