Operation to prevent vehicle theft at shopping centres launched by SAPS
The first phase focused on the Glen Ballard Mall while during the second phase, the operation moved to Harvest Place Mall and garages in Glen Marais.
The Kempton Park SAPS support head, Colonel Lesomo, recently led Operation Basadi to raise awareness about motor vehicle thefts from shopping centres in Kempton Park.
The operation, which took place at Glen Ballard Mall, was supported by various police departments and other stakeholders.
“The purpose of the operation was to address the theft of motor vehicles from the centre.

“Most of the victims are those that go into the gym and upon return, they found their vehicles stolen or broken into,” said Lesomo.
Lesomo interviewed the car guards surrounding that parking to find out what was going on and what preventative measures could be taken.
“Enough information was gathered for us to adequately address the problem.”

The operation consisted of two phases.
The first phase focused on the Glen Ballard Mall while during the second phase, the operation moved to Harvest Place Mall and garages in Glen Marais.
During the operation, 500 pamphlets were distributed, providing tips on how to avoid theft out of motor vehicles and GBV.
A community kiosk was also set up, allowing the community to certify documents without having to visit the police station.
