124 suspects arrested, 48 vehicles and firearms recovered

Officers participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

Between August 16 and August 22, Rapid Response Services, comprising the Flying Squad, K9 Units, and Highway Patrol members, arrested 124 suspects throughout Gauteng, and recovered 48 motor vehicles and five firearms.

Officers participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

These operations led to 59 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, business burglary, domestic violence, malicious damage to property, theft, housebreaking, illegal immigration, possession of unlicensed ammunition and contravention of a protection order.

A total of 48 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with 11 arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Five unlicensed firearms were recovered accompanying three arrests.

In further policing, 51 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroin, dagga, cat (cocaine), Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigations continue in these cases.

The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
