Police arrest alleged kidnapping kingpin at ORTIA

Police kept tabs on suspect after they believed him to be a ringleader behind a kidnapping-for-ransom syndicate targeting businessmen.

The SAPS intercepted a Zambian national (40) at OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday morning after he arrived in SA from Zambia.

The police have kept a close eye on his movements because they believe the suspect to be a ringleader behind a kidnapping-for-ransom syndicate targeting businessmen in SA.

He is linked to the kidnapping of a 63-year-old businessman in Helderkruin, Roodepoort, in July, specifically.

The businessman was rescued on the same day that the police discovered R300m worth of crystal meth at two properties in Fourways and a hotel in Bruma. The SAPS also believe the suspect to be a key figure in the drug seizure.

The police had tracked the suspect, and upon his arrival at the airport, a multidisciplinary team led by the SAPS arrested him.
