Norkem Park police launch Operation Basadi

Roadblocks were held on the P91. The area was chosen as a result of a large number of fatal crashes which occur on the busy road.

Norkem Park SAPS conducted Operation Basadi, a crime-prevention initiative led by women aimed at combating crime against women and children last week.

The operation was supported by the EMPD, CPF patrollers, crime wardens and the Public Service Act members.

The roadblocks was conducted on P91 and Rienert Avenue as a lot of fatal accidents take place on that busy road.

Warrant Officer Barbara-Anne Ferreira spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS urged motorists to reduce speed and drive safely, especially on roads such as the P91. During the operation police officers stopped and searched several vehicles.

“During the roadblock, we searched for drugs, firearms and stolen property. Ten fines were issued for various traffic violations,” said Ferreira.

Ferreira said the operation is usually conducted during Women’s Month in August, highlighting the important role of women in law enforcement.

As part of the initiative, female drivers were given little notebooks and crime awareness pamphlets.

The operation aims to raise awareness and prevent crime against women and children, promoting a safer community for all.
