New soccer field unveiled for Rebonwe Primary School

The school takes soccer seriously, for both girls and boys.

Johannesburg-based Atlas Plant Hire visited Rebonwe Primary School in Ivory Park on July 9 to unveil a new soccer field that was constructed especially for the school.

Atlas Plant Hire was formed to serve the construction, mining, quarrying and industrial sectors with tools.

Human resources manager for Atlas Plant Hire, Bathandwa Masuku said the company supported Rebonwe Primary School because the school is close to their hearts.

“We have been doing initiatives like assisting this school with the soccer field and buying them new kits.

“We chose this school specifically because we saw the need to help and decided to provide learners with what they need.”

Masuku added that the idea was to support the company’s immediate surrounding community.

Rebonwe Primary School’s new soccer field was just one of the company’s projects planned to uplift the community.

The school takes soccer seriously, for both girls and boys.

The learners often practise in the morning before their classes and in the afternoon after their classes.

Rebonwe Primary School boys’ soccer coach Emmanuel Gogela said he was delighted to hear the school would get a new field inside the school premises.

“We have challenges with limited resources. I was so happy when I heard that we would be getting a soccer pitch because now learners can practise at any time. Having the pitch inside the school premises is also safer for learners,” Gogela remarked.

During the unveiling of the new soccer field, employees from Atlas Plant Hire challenged learners to a friendly game.

The leaners gave the staff from Atlas a tough match.

To extend their gesture, the staff also prepared food for the entire school.

As a final gift to the school, learners were handed new soccer kits and balls.

Rebonwe Primary School principal Simon Tlhabana said the soccer pitch is going to be useful to the school because the learners will have a place where they can practise. After all, the school didn’t have a soccer pitch before.

“What Atlas did for us means a lot,” he said.
