Thembisa model aims for international success

Phokungwane has a passion for volunteer work and believes if the world holds hands it can be a better place.

Boitumelo Dorothy Phokungwane strives to be a rising star in the modelling industry.

The 17-year-old from Thembisa said she wants to pave the way for her future by engaging with the community.

Although she is working towards being a professional model, she also wants to further her studies.

Phokungwane was born and raised in Limpopo but her family moved to Thembisa in 2015.

She attended primary school at Child Academy Combined School.

Model, Boitumelo Phokungwane donated sanitary pads to Siziba Primary School.

She is now in Grade 11 and enjoys playing netball.

Phokungwane has a passion for volunteer work and believes if the world holds hands there can be a greater change that benefits everyone.

She said her achievements are her biggest inspiration.

“My achievements keep me going and make me believe that I can do and achieve more in life if I put in effort and dedication.

“My mother is also my inspiration. She has taught me a lot and I believe that I am who I am because of her and what she has done for me,” she said.

Phokungwane wishes to obtain a law degree and plans to study law at the University of Pretoria or the University of Cape Town.

She started participating in pageants in 2012 when she was in Grade R.

Phokungwane said things were not easy when she started modelling.

“When I started doing pageants, it was like a roller coaster. I was always scared and nervous but persevered, and everything fell into place,” said Phokungwane.

Phokungwane wants to help people in her community while on her journey to the biggest pageant titles in Gauteng.

She is part of the Change in Me project, which helps the community, especially schools, with donations for underprivileged learners.

The initiative donates sanitary pads to young girls of Endulweni Primary School and Siziba Primary School, ensuring the girls do not miss out on school because they do not have sanitary pads.

“I have also donated food to the homeless and less fortunate families. I also volunteered to clean up the community, and that is the way I give back to the community, helping where help is needed,” said Phokungwane.
