Be inspired by Melville Koppies

Do not forget the second Sunday of the month poetry reading and open mic session.

Melville Koppies attracts varied groups who want to explore different aspects of this green space and get inspiration.

Greenside Design Centre brought its students to give them ideas for two projects: to design a hypothetical exhibition centre for the Koppies and to design and make an article that incorporates different cultures.

Two post-doctoral law students from the US wanted to learn more about the Koppies’ history and how Joburg’s early inhabitants lived and interacted as a group.

This will feed into their research.

For another woman, the indigenous flora provides her with a picture of how to rehabilitate the neglected indigenous parts of the James and Ethel Gray Park.

US post doctorate students enjoyed hearing about the Koppies’ early history.

The Melville Koppies are open every Sunday morning from 08:00 to 11:30.

Residents can choose from many options, including a self-guided 5km trail or a 3km heritage trail.

Alternatively, residents can book a guided tour at R100 per person by calling 079 532 0083.

Safe parking is provided opposite the entrance to the Koppies at Marks Park Sports Club in Judith Road, Emmarentia.

Security on the Koppies provided.

Entry costs R90 per person and R50 for persons under the age of 18.

All income is used for the maintenance of the Koppies.
