Mambisa United Football Amateur Association (MUFAA) founder and host Rex Matibidi said he decided to host sports events to elevate community members.

“I created these tournaments to get children away from crime because many have talents that could take them out of poverty.”

“These events unite people from various locations, giving me the strength to host without sponsorship. I pay the referees with my own money because they ensure safety and fair play on the pitch,” said Matibidi.

He said the tournaments help players showcase their football skills, benefiting their portfolios when big teams approach them.

“It gives me joy when I see players from these tournaments make it to PSL teams. So far, we have had players we groomed being approached by Sekhukhune FC.

“On my side, I also approach teams to come and scout for players in the communities because we house many talented players in these tournaments.”

The association hosts tournaments every weekend around Thembisa and its surrounding areas. The only struggle the teams face is a lack of equipment.

Matibidi said they are struggling with funding to improve their equipment.

“We request sponsors to assist us with soccer balls and goal post nets.”
