Kempton karatekas excel at championships in Mozambique

New Generation SA Tang Soo Do athletes in Kempton Park recently represented South Africa at the karate championships held in Mozambique.

According to Mandlankosi Gobiyeza, chief instructor, the team first participated in the South African Championship which took place in Rustenburg, North West.

Those who were successful were given the opportunity to participate in the African championship for Region 14.

The group was represented by ages of 10 to 13 years.

“The athletes achieved outstanding accolades – one gold, two silver and one bronze medal.

“The outstanding performance, not only demonstrates the skill and commitment of our local athletes, but it also embodies the principles of excellence and sportsmanship that our community holds dearly.”

Gobiyeza stated that the team trains twice a week and have made use of online session ever since the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said the club was established in 2019, according to Gobiyeza, and despite the pandemic, has been steadily returning after extended durations of virtual training.

“Our goal is to elevate martial arts to new levels, we aim to promote the sport of karate in our region.

“I am proud of the students and have done their best. They have been showing up for training effortlessly and that has shown consistency,” he said.
