One dead in crash on R21 that included MMC’s vehicle

The MMC for Finance, Clr Nkululeko Dunga was seriously injured in the crash that claimed one life last night in Kempton Park.

The office of Ekurhuleni’s executive mayor has confirmed that the MMC for Finance, Clr Nkululeko Dunga was seriously injured in a crash that claimed the life of one other person on the R21 yesterday (October 23).

The multi-vehicle crash occurred before the Pomona Road off-ramp at around 19:00.

“The collision involved four vehicles, one of which belonged to council,” the mayor’s officer confirmed in a statement this morning.

“Clr Dunga, was seated in one of the vehicles and sustained serious injuries.”

According to officials rapid response from the EMPD Freeway Unit ensured that all crucial accident protocols and emergency procedures were meticulously and promptly administered.

“We are saddened to confirm that this unfortunate incident resulted in several injuries and a tragic loss of life.

“The injured parties have been transported to hospital, where they are receiving necessary medical attention.

“Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to all individuals and families affected during this difficult time.”

The South African Police Services are currently investigating the circumstances of the accident.

Further details will be communicated by the relevant authorities in due course.
