Kempton Park actor shoots for the stars

The movie is about elderly people who do not want to go to an old age home, however, their children force them to.

Kempton Park is home to a number of media stars and one of them is actor and psychologist, Juan-Pierre Moller.

Born and raised in Kempton Park, Juan-Pierre went to school at Laerskool Birchleigh and Hoërskool Birchleigh.

He first was first introduced to acting when his Grade One teacher said the school needed a male learner to participate in Kempton Park Eisteddfod and Juan-Pierre raised his hand and asked her if he could try.

In Grade 10 he acted in his first TV commercial.

“Since then I’ve worked on 10 TV commercials.”

These include adverts for Chicken Licken, Outsurance and Samsung.

“I also acted in the Swartwater 2 mini-series on SABC 2 and in the Heks horror movie,” he said.

More recently he was asked to be part of Hans Steek die Rubikon Oor, that was based on a book and radio drama with the same name.

Juan-Pierre said the movie is set to take South Africa by storm.

The movie is about elderly people who do not want to go to an old age home, however, their children force them to.

They then decide to rebel against the strict matron’s rules and get up to some mischief to get kicked out from the home.

“I play the matron’s right-hand man, named Esmeraldus. Esmeraldus cares a lot about the elderly in his care, however, they then disappoint him when they get up to mischief,” he said.

His fellow cast-mates include legendary actors Tobie Cronje, Pierre van Pletzen, Sandra Prinsloo and Diaan Daniels.

The movie will be the first Afrikaans film to be shown in cinemas since the pandemic.

Hans Steek die Rubikon Oor will be in cinemas from September 29.

Juan-Pierre said the film is a family one and full of laughs.

“Currently I am a practicing psychologist and I lecture psychology at The South African College of Applied Psychology in Sandton.

“I practice as an educational psychologist at Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen in Boksburg.

“I truly hope that this movie opens doors for more Afrikaans films in future to be able to go to the big screen,” he said.

Juan-Pierre added that he hopes other producers would see his talent and that they will also give him the opportunity to star in their films, like Corne and Rene van Rooyen did in this film.

“To infinity, and beyond, this is merely the beginning.

“Never let anything or any past circumstance hold you back from trying, working hard and achieving unexpectedly huge dreams,” he said.
