Thembisa woman awarded as community builder of the year

"You must work hard for the community so that you can receive an award, rather than asking for reward every time you aid the community.”

Mama Lillian Hlongwane of Thembisa was honoured with a community builder of the year award at Birchwood Conference Centre on August 5.

The award was sponsored by the MEC for Health and Social Development and organised by Sibahle Bath Salts.

She has been a ward committee member for Ward 11 under the portfolio of women and children since 2011.

She is interested in community social concerns, such as advocating for the rights of abused, neglected and vulnerable elderly and children.

Hlongwane said that she is deeply concerned about the well-being of those around her.

“If you are enthusiastic about serving the people, you must act rather than wait to be called upon.”
