Netball Fridays launched in Thembisa

The department wants to bring netball to the masses and revive attraction and interest in the sport.

To create the much-needed buzz and publicity encompassing the Vitality Netball World Cup 2023, the Department of Culture, Sports, and Recreation and Netball South Africa officially launched Netball Fridays at Mehlareng Stadium on April 14.

The event was to kick start The Vitality Netball World Cup 2023 taking place in Cape Town from July 28 to August 6.

By becoming the first African nation to host the world cup, South Africa will once again alter the course of history.

The Netball World Cup mania continues to spread.

The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Zizi Kodwa, invited the community of Thembisa to the ministerial outreach programme, which served as a world cup activation towards the 100-day celebration.

Both sports legends and ministers attended the event. Entertainment and sporting activities were the order of the day.

According to Kodwa, the department wants to bring netball to the masses and revive attraction and interest in the sport.

“With the world cup approaching, it is critical to raise awareness in our communities to encourage them to support the girls on their upcoming adventure.

The Netball World Cup mania continues to spread.

“It takes a village to raise a child, so now is the time for us to unite and make sure our girls know we have their backs.

“We hope to see our own team walking away with the trophy. That means a lot to us as a country,” said Kodwa.
