Drunk driver and passengers arrested in Thembisa

“All four suspects were detained at the Rabie Ridge police station and the VW Polo was taken to the Thembisa Precinct for safekeeping.”

Members of the EMPD Thembisa Precinct on 13 February arrested an intoxicated driver in the morning, along with three passengers for interference with the officers’ duties, intimidation and crimen injuria.

According to EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, the EMPD officers monitoring Andrew Mapheto Drive near the Phomolong section noticed a silver VW Polo sedan with four occupants driving recklessly.

“The officers pulled over the vehicle and noticed that the driver as well as three occupants were under the influence of alcohol.

“A breathalyser examination found the driver to be over the legal limit of alcohol in his blood. The passengers tried to intimidate the officers.

They were immediately arrested

“Officers transported the drunk driver to the Kempton Park Precinct to have a blood sample taken.

The man was arrested and charged with both reckless and negligent driving and driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The suspects will appear at the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.
