Rabie Ridge police nab robbery suspect after pursuit

“He will be charged for armed robbery and contravention of the Firearm Control Act."

On-duty officers from Rabie Ridge SAPS arrested a man on charges of armed robbery on October 16.

The man was also charged with being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The arrest follows reports received by the police of a robbery at Kanana Ext Four.

Sergeant Dipolelo Moremi, a communications officer at Rabie Ridge SAPS, said that the officers went to the specified house.

When they arrived, they encountered members of the community who identified the suspect.

Community members told officers that he had been detained after he was accused of holding a female victim at gunpoint while robbing her of her cellphone as she walked down the street to work.

“A 9mm pistol with one magazine and one live round were handed over to the police.

“The cellphone was recovered and also handed to the police. The suspect sustained injuries during his arrest.

“He was transported to Tembisa Hospital for medical treatment under police guard.

“He will be charged for armed robbery and contravention of the Firearm Control Act,” said Moremi.
