The Thembisa SAPS communications officer, Constable Patricia Mgijima, explained the reason for calling this urgent meeting was that on August 23, a fight between several emerging gangster groups left the school in a state of chaos.

The parents were informed about the challenges the school is having with bullying in the classrooms.

Parents and law enforcers talk about bullying in schools.

“The students allegedly fought over girlfriends. The CCK, Rough 3, BTK, 26, and 502 Burial Rosch, to mention a few of the gangster organizations that were fighting, are also present in other secondary schools near Thembisa.

“As all children received letters notifying the parents of the meeting’s urgency and its agenda, the number of parents who attended the meeting was not particularly impressive,” said Mgijima.

In his remarks to the parents, Sergeant Leny Lemao advised them to do their part by observing changes in their children’s conduct, and having a conversation with them to find out whether or not they are being bullied at school.

He also reassured parents that although police and other law enforcement agencies conduct weekly school talks and school searches, the struggle would be lost without parental support.
