Body of the missing Ivory Park boy found in Centurion

Ivory Park police said the child was last seen on Women's Day (9 August) before he was reported missing on the same day.

The mutilated body of a five-year-old was found in Centurion on August 14 after the child had been reported as missing at Ivory Park SAPS.

Ofentse Poopedi was last seen on Women’s Day and was reported missing on the same day.

Captain Mavela Masondo, spokesperson for the Gauteng SAPS, said body parts had been removed.

Masondo said Poopedi was last seen in the company of a local man.

“After learning about the missing child, community members launched a mob justice action against the man allegedly involved in the child’s disappearance.

“The community apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the Ivory Park police.

After investigations, another suspect was identified. A second arrest was made.

Both face charges of murder and kidnapping.

“It is believed one of the suspects is a neighbour of the Poopedi family.

“The suspects informed officers of the location of Poopedi’s body.

“The child’s body was found during a police search,” said Masondo.
