Charities join forces for common goals

Sabelo Ndlovu launched The Future Initiative Black Child Campaign on his birthday and engaged in charity work.

The Future Initiative was founded by Ivory Park’s Ndlovu in early 2021, then a first-year public affairs student at Tshwane University of Technology.

The organisation focuses on community charity work and motivational talks and mentorship programmes.
Future Initiative initiated the Future Initiative Black Child Campaign, which saw Dipalesa Foundation and Mkhabela Obedience Foundation partner with them.

They collected clothes to donate to Itemba Soup Kitchen, a Primrose-based charity organisation that provides soup and food packages for underprivileged residents of the area.

Community heroes come together to lend helping where it is needed most.

The clothes were handed over to Itemba head Jenny Scheigansz, who distributed it amongst the residents before they lined up for their weekly cup of soup and food packages, which were delivered by Johan van Wyk of Ackermans Pharmacy.

“We distribute the soup every on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We were also blessed with a donation of bags of potatoes and onions, which were distributed to various organisations and residents who attend the soup kitchen,” said Scheigansz.

“Johan and family from Ackermans Pharmacy visited us and brought over 300 food parcels plus boxes and boxes of biscuits and Drink-O-Pop to hand out. The whole family assisted in handing out the soup and bread and food parcels.

“We also handed over frozen food donated to us by the residents of Bedfordview during the recent extended power outage. We also handed over toys to the children.”

Ndlovu added that from the visit to Itemba, they were also able to receive leftover peanut butter sandwiches prepared by Tenique Ehlers-Labushchangne of St Andrew’s School for Girls which were later delivered and distributed to Thembisa-based NPO Tshepang Care Centre.

“This is an excellent example of different charities and community stakeholders working together for the benefit of everyone that looks to them for assistance. Together we can do more.”
