Drugs worth about R3.6-m seized

A 43-year-old man appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on November 19 after police confiscated drugs worth about R3.6-million from a warehouse in Pomona.

The man is facing charges of illegal dealing in drugs.

The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team received intelligence regarding a suspicious consignment at a packaging company in Spartan, near Kempton Park on November 17. Upon arrival, authorities inspected the consignment and discovered suspected crystal meth.

An intelligence-driven operation by the Hawks, EMPD and the Flying Squad was activated.

“Police kept surveillance on the consignment. Authorities pounced on the suspect after he dropped off the consignment at a shipment warehouse in Pomona, declared as a swimming pool pump and acid destined for Australia,” said Capt Ndivhuwo Mulmu.

Upon searching the consignment, police found plastic bags of crystal meth concealed in swimming pool detergent containers.

The suspect was arrested and charged and narcotics weighing 11.6kg with an estimated street value of R3.6-m were seized.
