WATCH: #IMadeMyMark – Voters share their reasons for voting

"I am hoping for is at whoever we elected will be able to help us I solving issues, especially the cleaning of the area and maintaining the local parks and overall cleaning and maintenance of the area."

The Express team visited several voting stations in Kempton Park today where we spoke to voters and asked them about their reasons for voting.

Birchleigh North resident, Lerato Lekabe:

“It being municipal elections, what I am hoping for is at whoever we elected will be able to help us I solving issues, especially the cleaning of the area and maintaining the local parks and overall cleaning and maintenance of the area. It was also said by one of the parties that they want the local community to be involved in that, so I am hoping that, that is how things are going to go and that I have made the right mark.”

Husband and wife, Timothy and Nomvula Mothale, traveled together to cast their votes.

Their cry is for job creation for the youth.

“It is not right that our youth is dependent on pensioners to put food on the table due to unemployment. They also need independence,” both shared.

Their other plea is for stability in electricity supply as, among other things, load shedding is a massive inconvenience for Timothy who uses an oxygen machine. The one they carried to the voting station is also used when he travels but he has had to use it more due to the loadshedding.

“When it runs out, we need to go to the local pharmacy to get a refill, an expense not covered by medical aid as medical aid only covers the machine,” said Timothy.
