Explosion at pump station leaves residents without water

Technicians will monitor the supply to Phomolong, Midstream Estate, and high-lying areas of Germiston and Bedfordview.

The City of Ekhuruleni is experiencing a water supply interruption following an explosion at Rand Water’s Palmiet Booster Pump Station on Sunday which left several areas without water.

According to CoE spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini the water supply interruption is affecting Thembisa, Clayville, Serengeti, and surrounding areas.

Dlamini adds that Rand Water has stated that the pump station is operating at 55% percent of its daily capacity; however, the incident has depleted water supplies in the reservoirs supplied from that pump station.

Technicians will monitor the supply to Phomolong, Midstream Estate, and high-lying areas of Germiston and Bedfordview.

Roving water tankers will be dispatched to the affected areas.

Areas affected include:

– Clayville Extension 45, 71, 80;

Serengeti

Ililaba

– Umthambeka

– Emoyeni

– Igqagqa

– Emfihlweni

– Part of Emangweni

– Part of Ixiweni

– Esselen Park extensions

– Friendship Town
