Shake your feathers with Brainy Birds

“As an organisation that helps animals in the community, we would like the community’s involvement,” said Dee.

In the hopes of bringing the community together and raising funds for birds in need, Brainy Birds Parrot Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre will host a talent show. The show will be held on May 29 near the non-profit animal shelter at the corner of van Tonder and Terrace roads, Edenvale.

Founder of Brainy Birds Dee Hendrickx expects the event to be fun for all ages. Hoping to attract a minimum of 40 contestants, the talent show will have two age categories, performers between the ages of 12 and under, as well as between 12 and 18 years.

“As an organisation that helps animals in the community, we would like the community’s involvement,” said Dee. “Because the event is all about fun, the acts will be limited to family-friendly themes.”

She said it will cost performers R150 and spectators R30, and beverages will be on sale. Performers must inform Brainy Birds of their intent to perform and pay their entrance fee by May 20. At the end of 2020, the organisation purchased the land it is located on. Since doing so, it has hosted several fund-raisers.

“When we hosted our Easter fund-raiser, we realised the need for greater community involvement,” said Dee. Dee said funds raised from the talent show will be used to cover the running costs of Brainy Birds.
