UPDATE: EFF distances itself from protest

Masses gathered and marched to the Kempton Park Civic Centre allegedly demanding the reopening of the Kempton Park Hospital.

The EFF wishes to distance itself from a protest that occurred on March 19. On the day, masses gathered and marched to the Kempton Park Civic Centre allegedly demanding the reopening of the Kempton Park Hospital.

Though many protesters were seen in EFF regalia, Nkululeko Dunga, EFF’s Ekurhuleni regional spokesperson, said the party didn’t organise the march.

“The EFF did not have any march on the day. We are not aware who mobilised and planned it nor do we, at this level, know of the intention or purpose,” Dunga told Express.

“We are aware that there were fighters present and it’s a duty of every fighter to be an activist and participate in community struggles, but that was the only role they played.”
Dunga added that their Ward 16 branch command team confirmed they did not sanction nor plan any march.
