Teacher at Laerskool Impala tests positive for Covid-19

The teacher who has tested positive for the coronavirus has already been placed in isolation.

A teacher at Laerskool Impala is in isolation after having tested positive for Covid-19.

Principal Willem Jacobs sent out a letter to parents in this regard on Tuesday morning.

Jacobs stated that along with the reopening of schools during lockdown, schools have changed to accommodate the necessary protocols.

“Laerskool Impala implemented all safety protocols as set out by the departments of education and health by measuring temperatures, wearing masks, sanitising hands, classrooms and other facilities that are in use on a daily basis, in addition to practising social distancing.

“Despite the fact that the school has taken every possible measure as prescribed, it appears that one of our teaching staff has now tested positive for Covid-19.”

Jacobs reiterated that all safety measures are being taken as prescribed and that the particular teacher has already been placed in isolation.

“We ask that parents keep an eye on learners who show any of the symptoms. We also appeal to all parents to keep children showing symptoms at home and to report it to the school. Furthermore, we advise parents that if a learner is showing symptoms, that they be tested for Covid-19.”

Parents were also asked to bear in mind that it is cold and flu season.

“As per instruction from the departments of education and health, the school will proceed as normal. The entire school is cleaned and disinfected on a daily basis during the week.”

Jacobs said Impala was doing everything in its power to ensure the school was 100 per cent safe and ready.

“Please support the school positively. Be safe and take care of our precious Impies.”

In June, a Grade Seven learner at the school also tested positive for the virus.
