Mrs Africa hosts birthday charity drive in Kaalfontein

Mrs Africa added that she continued to focus on her passion which was education and giving young people a chance to find their feet.

Thando Lamula-Shirinda, Mrs Africa 2020, under her foundation, The Sui-Generis Foundation, visited Kaalfontein for her birthday charity drive to donate food parcels to the underprivileged.

The reigning queen has donated to at least 10 families around Kaalfontein and continues to help learners achieve their dreams of one day being varsity graduates.

“Everything I do is through the foundation. On this day in celebration of my birthday, I thought since I am a philanthropist why not share with others and lay a helping hand where needed,” said Lamula-Shirinda.

“I ran a food parcel drive on social media and people reached out. They donated food parcels, vegetables and others managed to reach out with money, we went shopping in accordance to the needs of the people.

“The parcels had vegetables, cooking oil, maize meal, tin food, toiletries and more necessities to cover them for at least the next two weeks or so.”

Mrs Africa added that she continued to focus on her passion which was education and giving young people a chance to find their feet.

“I adopted a school in Sebokeng in the Vaal called Thandukwazi Secondary School, which I visit from time to time. There are online sessions through social media that I do with Grade 12 learners in the hope to help them get to varsity.”

Leornard Banda, one of the recipients of the food donation, said, “At this moment, we are happy with the food parcels because I am the only one looking after my brothers’ children and the only one working. Since the lockdown, we worked two weeks a month and the salary decreased.”
