Unemployment workshop brings opportunities to Tembisa youth

Youth embarks on a fight against unemployment

Tembisa youth attended a career exhibition and youth unemployment workshop hosted at the Oasis of Life family church in Ward 07 (Temong Section) on June 29.

Gauteng Young Vision Youth Organisation, Ward 07 Councilor and Department of Labor held the workshop to empower the youth through engagements with stakeholders.

CaptainSA Elias Sibeko, the founder of Gauteng Young Vision Youth Organisation, said the purpose of this innovative workshop is to uplift young people of South Africa through the organisation’s development projects.

Tebogo Morake from Clr Thabang Jiyane’s office, Ward 07 councillor, said the councillor’s office will ensure that the workshops are an ongoing event held each month where young people will be engaging with stakeholders to learn about the available job opportunities and learnerships.

“This will help alleviate the scourge of substance abuse among young people. More than 60% of young people are unemployed and they lack information about available privileges. We will, therefore, bring private and public sector to share valuable tips on job hunting and educate the youth about alternative strategies like volunteering to gain experience on the skills they are qualified for. This will see youth becoming active participants in our economy,” said Tebogo.

She said young people must continue to pursue education as it is the key to success.

“They must persist by applying in different government departments until something comes up for them. They must attend all organised workshops because that is where most of the information is disseminated and there they can also network”.

She said today there was a presentation of information from different stakeholders and young people submitted their CV’s into the labour department’s database.

“We also had motivational speakers who gave hope to the unemployed youth. An attendee, Nhlakanipho Msezana, said after being unemployed for a long time he decided to start his own business.

“This workshop was very helpful. I had my business registered but I was still stuck and didn’t know where to go but now I know where to start in advancing my business”.

Mamosuwe Mogoboya from the Department of Labour said the event was a success and they wish to thank everyone who attended the workshop.

“We also want to thank stakeholders who made the event possible”.
