IPTA celebrates with its year-end function

The association hosted a massive party to celebrate with community members of Ivory Park on Saturday.

The Ivory Park Taxi Association celebrated its year-end function on a high note.

The association hosted a massive party to celebrate with community members of Ivory Park on Saturday.

Among the attendees were the Deputy Minister of Transport Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga, councillors from the City of Johannesburg and representatives from Leporong Taxi Association in Limpopo.

Music legend, Babsy Mlangeni and Pleasure entertained the crowd.

A local comedian duo left the audience asking for more as they mesmerised the audience by cracking jokes that carried messages of discouraging the youth from smoking nyaope. The duo also appealed to South Africans to stop xenophobia.

The chairman of the Ivory Park Taxi Association, Mr Johannes Mkhonza, praised the community of Ivory Park and the surrounding areas for their support.

“You have been using our taxis to and from work. This is to say thank you for your support. To those who will be travelling to their different provinces for the festive season, please drive home safely,” said Mr Mkhonza.

Councillor Lesibana Lamola praised the association for the good work in the community and said, “When there is a time of need they are there to help. When families have lost their loved ones they are there to assist by providing transport and helping with the burials.”

Deputy Minister of Transport Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga said, “When I received this invitation I contacted Santaco president Mr Taaiboos. I must honour the invitation because I felt I was going to meet with a pro-active leadership and a business oriented taxi association.”

She said almost 70 percent of people use taxis as mode of transport.
