Choir performs for disabled children

The Tembisa Senior Choir paid a special visit to the Tumelo Home for the Mentally Handicapped and donated clothes and food parcels on Friday last week.

The elderly singers spent the day with the handicapped children. The choir leader, Mr Joe Mphamo, said it is part of their Christmas programme to give presents to the disabled. “Since the choir was formed in 2010, we adopted the home and give the little we have. It is never too early in the year, or in life, to start giving back. The disabled are our childrenand we will show them the love and support they need. In order to donate more, we are asking for any donations of new or gently used clothes,” he said. Mr Mphamo added that they spent the day looking after the disabled by bathing and feeding them. The Tembisa Senior Choir consists of twenty-eight members. They rehearse on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Emkhathini Multi-Purpose Centre. Tumelo Home’s representative, Ms Refilwe Cindi, said they grateful for the donation made by the choir. “It shows that there are people in the community who think about us. As helpers, we are also learning something from them. What they give us every year helps us feed the children. We are calling on other people to follow in their footsteps. Giving back to the community should be everyone’s aim,” she said.
