Police net 58 in operations

The Tembisa SAPS arrested 58 suspects in routine operations over the past weekend.

According to the Tembisa SAPS spokesperson, Constable Tebogo Sesing, many of the arrests were for driving under the influence of alcohol, the possession of stolen property, unlicenced firearms, murder, rape and common assault.

“The festive season is around the corner and we intend to work tirelessly to arrest criminals. Among those arrested were two suspects aged 24 and 31. They were arrested for a business robbery at Isivana section. A 21-year-old man, who was operating a spaza shop in the evening, said the two men approached him, drew knives and demanded cash. The suspects assaulted him, took an undisclosed amount of money, his passport and fled the scene,” said Constable Sesing.

The victim reported the matter to the Tembisa police. The two suspects were later arrested and detained at the Tembisa SAPS station.

They are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on charges of business robbery.

“We urge to business owners to close early or sell through burglar bars to avoid robberies. People are also urged to not walk alone at night,” he concluded.
