Kempton Park area review

Kempton park is an area of strong economic and residential activity. Originally named, “Kempten”, the area is incredibly close to OR Tambo International Airport, shopping centres, good schools and major highways. Property for sale in Kempton Park is great value for money.

Kempton Park – also known as “the airport town” – is situated north east of Johannesburg and south of Pretoria, smack bang between these two cities. Home to Africa’s busiest airport, OR Tambo International, residents list proximity to this air traffic centre as both a pro and a con of living in Kempton. On the up side, the travel gateway is a hop, skip and a jump from home, but on the down side, the noise and air pollution from the airport can be a nuisance.

Kempton Park was originally named by Bavarian-born Karl Wolff, who travelled to South Africa from Bavaria for work in the early 1900s. It is reported that he divided his Zuurfontein farm into residential areas and named the cluster of areas “Kempten” after his place of birth. Years later, the town’s name was anglicized to Kempton Park. The town changed significantly after the goldrush, and both industry and urban property developed exponentially. Today, Kempton Park is still an economic hub and the areas of Spartan, Isando and Chloorkop provide employment for thousands of its residents.

Andre Landman, an estate agent at Seeff in Kempton Park, who has been in the property industry for over 20 years says that “entry level homes are really affordable. R500K for a two-bed, one-bath is value for money in a growing and developing market like Kempton Park. Then there are the family-type homes (3 bed, 2 bath, garden etc) for about R850-900k.” Landman reports that the sectional scheme market in Kempton performs the best, as it close to the airport, shopping centres, and good schools. Sectional title property for sale in Kempton Park is value for money.
