The suspects allegedly went into the bedroom where the children and nanny were sleeping and fired a shot.

A police officer was taken to hospital after she was allegedly shot during a house robbery in Birch Acres last week Thursday.

The incident is alleged to have occurred around 1am.

According to Sgt Johanna Madiga, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, the officer was at her home with her two children and the nanny when she got shot.

“The officer was woken up by strange noises in her yard. She opened the bathroom window to see what was happening, which was when she was shot on her right arm,” said Madiga.

“There were allegedly three suspects and one of them had a firearm. The suspects forced open the kitchen door and began to ransack the house. They allegedly went into the room where the nanny and the two children were sleeping and fired a shot.”

The nanny and children were not hurt but were very traumatised by the incident.

The suspects allegedly took a plasma television and a cellphone and fled the scene.

The victim is a Norwood SAPS officer and cases of house robbery and attempted murder are under investigation.
