WATCH: Norkem Park Primary hosts another successful sports day

Laerskool Mooifontein Primary’s soccer team took second place for the second time after losing the final match against Boksburg’s Parkrand Primary School.

Shangri-La Academy’s netball team players are the champions for this year’s Sunbake Norkem Festival.

The annual soccer and netball tournament was held over the weekend at Norkem Park Primary School.

Aston Manor Primary School placed second after an adrenaline-filled final against Shangri-La. Laerskool Mooifontein Primary filled the podium position in third place followed by Solid Foundations Primary School in fourth place.

Shangri-La’s soccer team took third place after their win against Super Sports United Soccer Schools.

According to organiser, Jason Picot, the 18th installment of the tournament was a huge success.

“We are happy with the way the event worked out. This year was the biggest with 18 soccer teams and 16 netball teams competing,” said Picot.

Shangri-La Academy’s u-12 soccer and netball teams participated in Norkem Park Primary School’s annual soccer and netball tournament in May. The soccer team achieved third place, while the netball team was crowned the overall winners. The winning team members are, front: Nakita Britz, Izabella Granicki, Zinhle Letsholo, Mary Ighalo, Isabelle Adams and Madison Roddan. Back: Jade Muller, Caity Waite, Kiara Gerhardt, Fantasia Osadolor-Ehima and Melody Spies.

“The event is definitely growing and getting better every year and we only hope it will continue growing. It was a fantastic tournament; we had over 400 children from across the country attend.”

The mission of this festival is to give children from all backgrounds an opportunity to play in a professional and well-organised environment.

Northridge Primary, Wendywood Primary, Tlamatlama Primary, Brebner Primary and Bedfordview Primary were among the schools represented at the festival.

The soccer sportsmanship trophy was awarded to Solid Foundations Primary School and to Norkem Park Primary School for netball.
