The Buddy Holly Story – A vibrant musical worth watching
One of the most vibrant and iconic shows, Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story, which has been enjoyed by millions of people around the world, is being staged at The Theatre of Marcellus, Emperors Palace.
Written by Alan Janes, an English writer and producer, the show tells the incredible life story of Buddy Holly and how he went against the grain and followed his heart to become a pioneer of the rock n roll movement.
Frans Swart, director of Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story, says this is a feel good musical that all people should see.
“The story of Holly is one to be told and not one to be missed.”
According to Swart, directing live shows, especially musicals, comes with challenges.
“One needs to find the right people, who can both act and sing, to play the right roles, which is not the easiest thing to do,” said Swart.
He added that when he was initially working and researching the script, there was only one Hipockets Duncan that came to mind, and that was Malcolm Gooding. “I was so grateful when I phoned Malcolm and he immediately agreed to take on the role.”

Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story is on at Emperors Palace’s Theatre of Marcellus until 10 June 2018. Evening shows at 20:00. There are also matinee shows on Saturday at 15:00 and on Sundays at 11:00 and 15:00. Due to the high demand, an extra show has been added for Sunday, starting at 11am.
