Taxi driver trapped, 15 injured as taxi crashes into truck

Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured driver with advanced life support

Fifteen people were injured on Tuesday morning when a taxi crashed into the side of a large truck at the Jet Park and Yaldwyn Road intersection in Jet Park.

Russel Meiring of ER24 said ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene to find both the truck and wrecked taxi in the middle of the intersection.

Upon closer inspection, paramedics found the driver trapped inside his taxi in a critical condition. Several other patients were found either walking around on the scene or seated on the side of the road.

Provincial fire services had to use specialised rescue tools to free the trapped driver while paramedics assessed the patients. Fifteen were found on the scene, their injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured driver with advanced life support interventions, before they were transported to various hospitals for further treatment, Meiring said.
