Taking a look at Joburg’s towers and turrets, spires and steeples

Prof Kathy Munro, an honorary associate professor in the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of the Witwatersrand, will talk on Johannesburg – towers and turrets, spires and steeples at September 21 meeting of Modderfontein Conservation Society.

The meeting takes place at 7.30pm at Modderfontein Town Hall at 1 Casino Road.

“Johannesburg started as a mining camp but quickly created a city-scape of unusual, practical, useful and sometimes fanciful architecture,” says Munro.

This presentation will have you looking at the Johannesburg city scape in new ways, seeking out the towers and spires of the city and asking why they are there and what they reveal about the evolution of the city of Johannesburg.

Visitors are welcome to attend this talk. An entrance fee of R30 is charged to help cover expenses.
